04/10/09 NEHYL U15 League Cup
Manor Colts  5    Camberley Boys  2

This was the third fixture against the same opposition in almost as many weeks as Camberley made the now familair trip to Alton to take on Manor Colts in the first round of this seasons league cup.

Camberley were missing their captain Jochan Embley and were without Ollie Barrie from the defence as they took to the field on a cool afternoon by the Watercress line in a match which should have been a close encounter.

The start looked promising with some good passing football and quick moves up front enough to show the team looked hungry for a win but with Manor taking the lead 10minutes or so into the first half after a series of poor clearances Camberley once again were having to come from behind. The equaliser was crafted from a long ball over the Manor defence and almost deflected rather than headed into the net by Dharu Tamang under pressure from the Manor centre back. But in it went and Camberley regrouped.

The remainder of the first half was memorable for Manor Colts taking a leaf from the Camberley book and playing the long ball out of defence and running through a anxious mid field to take on the goal keeper 1 on 1. Bill did his best and blocked several clear cut chances but was unable to keep the scores level on his own and Camberley were 3-1 down at half time.

The game continued to elude Camberley`s grasp and despite flashes of skill and determination from many areas on the pitch the result seemed inevitable. Manor scored again with pace and expert delivery completely out manoevering the Camberley back four and following a near perfect cross slotted the ball passed Bills out stretched hand to make it 4-1 and put the game out of Camberleys reach.

But as is the case on many previous matches the team has a habbit of finding a little bit extra when all is lost. Darryl found the net in emphatic style with a perfect strike that left the Manor defence looking on the keeper rooted to the spot and suddenly the team came to life. It was too little to late to salvage the result but for much of the remainder of the half Camberley took the game to Manor and played good attacking football to restore some pride on the day.

Manor managed one last strike to sew up the tie and ran out deserved winners 5-2, a result the exact inverse of the previous fixture.

This was Camberley`s off day and the whole team shouldered the blame for the poor result. Man of the match went to Dharu who from the teams lack luster performance showed pace and skill once again, the trade marks of his game.

27/09/09 NEHYL U15 Division 3
Petersfield Town Cougars  4    Camberley Boys  3

The first of this seasons `big `games saw Camberley travel to Petersfield and to Taro Centre to play top of the league `Cougars`. The home teams impressive start to the season in which they had scored no less that 11 goals in 2 matches with only 2 in reply pointed ominously to the task in hand and Camberley were thoughtful as the whistle went for kick off.

As it turned out, a little too thoughtful as the home side cruised to a goal in front within minutes of the start, their forward line simply running through the sleepy defence and netting at close range from a tight cross.

It has almost become to be expected from the side that they need time to assess the opposition and formulate between them selves a game plan but equally will leave themselves open to pressure in the early stages. So it was today with Petersfield making all the running and Camberley doing all the chasing as they sought to control the game, but as before they answered their own questions with a period of dominance in mid field which was only thwarted by an infringment in the penalty box as Dharu was brought crashing down giving Darryl the penalty kick to bring the scores level.

Emphatically taken the team regrouped and settled into the game. The defence locked together and gave the midfield confidence to press forward and the forwards took on the home teams defenders with a new confidence.

Several opportunities followed but the game had taken on a even feel with both teams looking for something different and eventually Camberley were undone by an individual run and strike from posibbly Petersfields best player who was just able to shoot across the face of the goal from a very occute angle leaving goal keeper Bill Wilson stranded.

Un fazed by the pegging back Camberley continued to play the better football and Dharu came close to the equaliser minutes later as a near perfect delivery was put just wide of the near post.As the team pushed on it was Jason Carter out on the left wing who latched onto a poor clearance from the under pressure Petersfield defence after a fierce shot from Dharu was parried and Camberley were level.

The home team however rallied late on in the half to pull away and lead 3-2 at the break despite heroics from Bill in goal and some excellent defending from Ollie and Tom as they tried to hold out for the whistle. But heads remained `up` as they left the field at the break and the determination was there at the start of the second half which featured 2 replacements for the injured Kieran and overworked Ollie. Andy O`brien took the left back position and was immediatly tested by a refreshed Petersfield forward line but dealt proffesionally with the situation showing good pace and delivery to send Sanjay Baniya scampering away in one of several early Camberley sortee`s.

Josh and Darryl had by this time taken charge in the mid field returning the ball and block defending setting up attacking moves from deep in their own half which inspired the team to push on, but a cruel long ball which took a turn on its bounce allowed a fortunate opportunity which Petersfied were pleased to accept and Bill could do nothing about and Camberley were 4-2 down .

Heads looked to the floor but were soon lifted by team encouragement from an inspired captain who today refused to give up. Jochan despite his own battles with the opposition forwards gave time to instruct Camberley`s newest recruit Payam Dinavarnd playing for the first time at right half and from some well worked play on the right came Camberley`s 3rd goal as Sanjay lashed the ball into the left hand corner from 20yards out.

Camberley were once again playing the better football and Dharu should have leveled soon after but instead recieved nothing after a poor tackle left him holding his face as he went for goal. Darryl playing with a sore foot after a first half stamping shot over the bar and Payam unfortunatly rushed his opportunity for debuit glory and fired across the face of the goal from 10yards out.

At the whistle Camberley were beaten only by time. They left the field having all the posession and yet non of the spoils of this hard encounter. Petersfield new they had been in a quality match and were please to keep their 100% record but only just.

Man of the match went to Josh Collett who typified the determination and courage of the whole team on the day.

20/09/09 NEHYL U15 Division 3
Camberley Boys  5    Manor Colts Sportiv   2

Return fixtures do not usually arrive within a week of the first encounter but so it was that Camberley played hosts to Manor Colts at the Sixth Form ground just 7 days after loosing the opening game of the season to them at Alton.

The afternoon began with both teams arriving early as if to state the importance of the game. Manor, with 2 wins out of 2 were keen to continue their good start to the season whilst Camberley needed to put last weeks result behind them and over turn the defeat.

Right from the kick off Manor looked positive. Their composure on the ball and speed of movement showed they were there for the win but unlike the previous encounter Camberley stood their ground and looked for the break in play to impose themselves on the Manor back line.

Several early chances went begging. Dharu, in determined form out run the right back to set up a shooting chance only to be crowded out at the last second and forward partner Sanjay equal to the task shot poorly form close range.

The boy`s regrouped and absorbing the pressure of Manor`s forward quartet again set up attacking moves on both flanks with Jason and Sanjay penetrating the opposition defence but unable to finish cleanly.

Manor clearly saw this as good fortune and pressed with greater purpose  to be rewarded with the opening goal just after the quarter hour mark. With the defence stretched to the limit Bill was unable to keep out a crafted shot to give the visitors the lead and dampen Camberley`s early hopes.

The next few minutes saw the well matched sides battle it out within the mid field zone, neither team willing to relinquish control of this vital area and striving for openings within each others defence. Camberley, seizing on a spilt ball sent Dharu and Sanjay through on goal and the pair completed the move in characteristic fashion to bring the scores level to cheers of encouragement from players and spectators alike.

But as so often happens the euphoria was broken up when some poor defending 5 minutes later allowed a swift passing move to end in a well taken shot and Camberley were 2-1 down with 10minutes of the half remaining.

Again Camberley settled to the task. Manor pressed hard to capitalise of their lead with Camberley relying on the safe hands of Bill Wilson in goal to keep the scoreline acceptable, twice being asked to make match winning saves from close range when Camberley`s defence buckled. They were lucky not to fall further behind when a looping shot beat the keeper at full stretch only to bounce under the bar and fall fortunately in front of the goal line for Jochan to willingly clear up field.

Shortly afterwards Tom took a ball square in the face as he charged down a strike on the edge of the box and new defender, Man Rana, not easily moved, was bowled over as Manor forced their way on goal as the defence closed together. As time ran short Camberley broke out of defence and for once over ran the Manor midfield completely to give Dharu the opportunity to equalise which he did in emphatic style. The balance restored Camberley played out the remaining minutes of the half with confidence and with everything to play for they were pleased with the 2-2 score line.

With half time discussions over the boy`s took to the field with greater resolve. From the side lines they certainly didn`t have it all their own way with Bill still busy in the Camberley goal but in spreading the ball wider and playing out of defence using the wings the team began to tire the opposition. Twice Sanjay went close afer flowing moves through the centre and with Andy O`Brien playing a determined and composed game at left back the balance of play was turning in the home teams favour. Andy himself shot at distance just looping the keeper at on to the net after following a well constructed move from deep in his own half and the teams confidence grew again.

Dharu added to his 2 first half goals to bring up this seasons first hat trick and Jason got his reward for all the hard work put in by adding a fourth minutes later.

Manor now were quiet. Silenced by Camberley`s dominence over the whole field. The defence soaked up all that they could muster and delivered quality balls for the mid field and forwards to exploit and with their resolve broken Darryl, who had worked tirelessly all afternoon, chased down what the opposition thought was a lost cause, brought the ball back inside from the corner flag and struck a powerful shot which the struggling Manor defence could only parry into their own goal.

Minutes later the final whistle blew. Camberley had been in a terrific battle with a strong imaginative side in Manor Colts and had prevailed through self belief and physical effort. They all deserved to be mentioned as to a man they played with passion and determination all to the best of their ability.

Man of the match this week went to Andy in recognising his hard work and determination throughout the game.

12/09/09 NEHYL U15 Division 3
Manor Colts Sportiv   4   Camberley Boys  3

The first game of the 2009/10 season began as a hastely scheduled fixture with Camberley travelling to Manor Colts in Alton as one of several teams not involved in Hampshire cup matches this week.

Both teams took to the field looking nervous and ill at ease with the task in front of them. Countless errors in the early stages led to end to end football with little substance and an air of mild panic decended on the ground with both teams feeling the early pressure.

It was Manor Colts who settled first and brought calm to their endeavours. There style of play began to open up a fragile Camberley defence who with several out of season changes in their line up  struggled to have any composure on the ball and relied on loose kicking to thwart attempts on goal. Behind them though the new goal keeper Bill Wilson stood confident and resolute and for his efforts on the day received the man of the match award for his commitment.

It was therefore against the run of play that Camberley took the lead with a well worked goal from Jason Carter slotting into an open net from an inch perfect cross from Sanjay Baniya. The relief was measurable but short lived as Manor bounced back to level the scores after mounting pressure had seen defenders Chris Waddell and Darryl Crowder block countless shots and break up scoring opportunities from a frustrated home side.

The second half began better for Camberley with more patience and thought being put into the game. The passing game took shape and with more commitment in the tackle the boys looked a different side. Unfortunatly as in the first half the better team does not always reap the rewards for its superiority. Manor replied within minutes to rock Camberley back and once again the nerves took hold.

A quick team reshuffle brought new life to the mid field but with Captain Jochan Emberly leaving the field with a back injury Camberley needed to up the pace again if they were to get anything from the game.

Spirits lifted however when last seasons top scorer Sanjay equalised after Chris had powered his way through the defence to set up the attempt on goal. Seconds later Camberley`s run of good fortune continued when Darryl shot solidly home from just inside the box to retake the lead in this hard to predict game. Darryl had another chance on gaol from a free kick awarded after poor tackle brought Dharu Tamang crashing down 25 yards from goal. No fairy tale ending here though as the shot flew several feet over the bar and Camberley had to regroup.

How Camberley needed the 2 goal cushion. Manor, spured on by the good luck took full control of the dying minutes equalising with a quality goal and then almost cruely poaching the winner minutes from time when a corner failed to be cleared. With no time to reply it was Manor Colts afternoon. The managers agreed a draw would have been the fairer result but football once again won the day. As unpredictable as ever no result is certain until the final whistle.
