Camberley Boys Royals 6 Theale Tigers 0
Camberley stormed back into form at this home fixture, again without the service of some important players due to absence and injury.
The Royals put the pressure on Theale from the start, forcing an error from the keeper in the first five minutes which enabled Bradley to score his first goal for the Royals. Theale fought back however and had a number of shots on goal demanding Dan, who was on his form of the season, to make three fantastic saves. This definitely put the visitors on the back foot and developed more confidence within the Royals. As a result many more chances were created going forward, and following a pass back after a corner kick, Ollie L. curved a shot into the far post from the right.
2-0 is a good position at half time, but we know from experience that it is an insufficient cushion. So, Camberley worked hard from the whistle, holding the ball well, keeping Theale in their half and pushing forward all the time. This effort was rewarded with a good goal snatched by Ryan.
From then on, Theale seemed to have their heads down and although they made a few attempts on goal, the Royals defence and Dan in goal ensured that these were well managed and turned back into attacking moves, which were capitalized into three more goals. First by Ryan up front, then a great move (and one of many) by Joe S. on the left and finally a solid and well-timed strike by Patrick R. whilst playing the last five minutes on the right-wing.
A great performance, another clean sheet and three important points on the board. The Royals go into next week’s Cup match against Sandhurst confident and ready to battle hard.

California Stingrays 4 Camberley Boys Royals 1
Absence and injuries meant the Royals went into this fixture with only eleven players in the squad, but on the back of three impressive wins.
Camberley started brightly enough, pressuring the opposition and getting the ball forward, and they were rewarded with a great Joe B. goal snatched in the box after ten minutes. However, California then woke up and ensured that they held possession for the remainder of the half and had a number of shots on goal, where it was Dan’s determined keeping that kept the Royals’ in the game, until just before half time when the home side equalized.
The second half continued much as the first. California pushed hard, showed a greater will to win and it was not long before the score was 2-1. Having said this, Camberley did create some good chances but failed to convert them and, coupled with unusual defensive frailties this week and one or two on-field injuries, the opposition were able to put away two more before the final whistle.
So, a disappointing result but one which can be turned around next time if the Royals show the form and desire they displayed against Headley and Aldershot in previous matches.

Camberley Boys Royals 6 Headley Hornets 0
Given past encounters, Headley possibly came to this game thinking it would be straightforward. They could not have been more wrong. This was an emphatic win for the Royals in every sense and the scoreline did not flatter to deceive - it could easily have been double-figures.
The on-form Camberley Boys stormed into the game from the off, immediately putting Headley onto the back foot. They won every ball in mid-field, put up an impregnable barrier at the back and within five minutes they were one up, following an unstoppable strike into the top corner by Ollie L. on the right wing. This was never going to be enough and great midfield play enabled him to do the same again five minutes later.
Being two up spurred on the Royals who continued to dominate the rest of the first half; reading the play, communicating well and tackling hard. 90% of the match took place in the Headley half and just before the break Joe B. stretched to push the ball along the ground, out of the reach of the keeper and across the line.
Managerial demands at half time were for more of the same and Camberley did not disappoint. Although Headley rallied for a time at the beginning of the second half, once Joe B scored his second goal ten minutes in, they gradually lost discipline in midfield and at the back. This left the Royals to play some really impressive passing maneuvers, across and down the length of the pitch, creating numerous chances that inevitably ended with Joe B’s third, completing his second hatrick of the season.
The Royals find themselves in the enviable position of having four strikers at their disposal so there were several changes to come. Ryan caused all sorts of problems for the opposition at the front and came so close to scoring, as did Patrick R. who after several attempts struck home the sixth just before the final whistle.
There were some outstanding performances during this match but it was the collective team play that was so impressive; a complete turnaround compared to the start of the season. In spite of it being February, the Royals achieved their first clean sheet and have just put their first points on the table. But they are looking good and looking up.

Aldershot 0 Camberley Boys Royals 3
Eleven weeks had passed since the Royals had kicked a ball in anger, so it was with some trepidation and much more hair, that they met at Bourley Road to face Aldershot – a side that had beaten them twice this season.
However they need not have worried. The full strength Royals side took charge right from the start, pressuring Aldershot in midfield, retaining possession and gradually building what turned out to be a brick wall at the back.
Aldershot were rattled and soon began to concede a number of free kicks and corners, one of which was pitched perfectly by Jacob onto the head of Patrick Ryan into the top corner. Camberley’s high tempo continued after half time and with Aldershot’s on-pitch discord increasing, a penalty was given. Joe Scott stepped up and placed it cooley into the bottom corner beyond the reach of even the very tall Aldershot keeper: 2.0.
The expected fight-back from the opposition never came and it was with solid defending, a ball-winning and attacking midfield, coupled with positive decision making up-front, that the Royals created further chances and scored again through Patrick Ryan. However, even then they did not sit back and continued to dominate, hitting the bar, forcing saves and driving just wide on a number of occasions.
This was the best performance by Camberley this season. Every player seemed to have their best game. It was a great match to watch and one that even the Aldershot manager said they fully deserved to win. So, excellent Cup form continues, but as manager Hayden said afterwards, the standard has been set and nothing less is expected in the upcoming league games.

08/11/09 NEHYL Under 13 League Cup (2nd Round)
Camberley Boys Royals 5 Rushmoor Saints Rhinos 2
A great day for the Royals who notched up their first win of the season, following an impressive display of teamwork. An up-to-strength side playing in their favoured positions began the game strongly; winning the midfield, playing the ball wide and creating plenty of chances going forward. The first goal came 10 minutes in, from Ollie Leatherdale on the right wing and the second shortly afterwards from Joseph Barnett up front.
However, it is never that easy. Rushmoor were granted a questionable penalty and although Dan Steele went the right way and got a hand to it, the strike counted. In spite of being ahead at the break, there was still a lot to do in the second half. Camberley took control and made several opportunities, but it was Rushmore who scored with a good strike that dipped into the bottom corner. Undaunted, the Royals came back with pace and determination, playing some great passing football and building more striking certainty in the box. This resulted in great goals from Patrick Ryan, Liam Fogarty and then Patrick Ryan again in fairly quick succession.
Thereafter, solid defending and midfield play cancelled out all of Rushmoor’s attacks and the Royals prevailed with a convincing 5-2 confidence-boosting win. It felt like a return to last season’s form which will hopefully be carried forward to the next league game.

Theale Tigers 1 Camberley Boys Royals 0
This was a disappointing display by an under-strength Royals side that had shown so much improvement in recent games. A weakened eleven( through absence, illness and both) made the longest away trip of the season to Theale, to take on the U13 Tigers.
A fairly laboured first half by both sides saw Camberley with most of the possession but making few chances. After the break the game continued in much the same vein but defensive frailties meant that the Royals conceded a goal to the Tigers who clung on for the rest of the match. Camberley were not able to capitalize on some chances going forward and despite creditable performances by Matthew and Bradley in midfield, the match ended 1-0 to the home side.
Hopefully the squad will be back to full strength and firing on all cylinders next week, when challenge California.

Aldershot Whites 2 Camberley Boys 0
This was another spirited performance from Camberley against a well organised Aldershot team.
The first half was evenly matched with few chances at either end but during the second half for long periods Camberley looked the more likely to score, with Ryan going very close with a deft lob over the 7ft tall Aldershot goalkeeper.
But as the game became more stretched, the first clear cut chance fell to Aldershot and their centre forward scored with a well placed shot. As Camberley pushed for an equaliser Aldershot sneaked an undeserved second.
This was another solid performance thoughout that had high flying Aldershot worried for long periods and, as manager Trevor Hayden pointed out, there are easier games in the coming weeks.

Mytchett Athletic Falcons 4 Camberley Boys Royals 1
In spite of what the score line may indicate, the Royals’ improvement in form continued, against the top of the table unbeaten side. An up-to-strength side and the surprise & very welcome return of Patrick Mungai must have raised the spirits of the U13s.
They set about causing havoc amongst the Mytchett midfield, winning most of the play, getting the ball forward and staying solid in defence. However, an uncleared ball did find its way into the goal 15 minutes in and Camberley were one down against the run of play. The Royals turned up the heat immediately and came back strongly. An accurate pass from midfield saw its way into the path of a marauding Joe Scott who struck home to bring the game even. Mytchett’s second came a few minutes before half time but Camberley remained undaunted and fought to the whistle.
The shouting of the Mytchett management could be heard clearly from their Clubhouse at half-time; the opposition was rattled and they were likely to come out fighting after the break. However the Royals were ready for that and pressed hard, played aggressively in the midfield and thwarted many of Mytchett’s moves into the Camberley half. However, ultimately it was the home side that got lucky and managed to score two more goals late into the match, whilst Camberley’s opportunities went either side of the posts on a number of occasions.
Table topping sides tend to prevail even when they don’t play well. Mytchett’s manager said that they did not deserve their win. He was right, but unfortunately points are not awarded qualitatively. Nevertheless, the Royals should be buoyed by a great performance and go forward with renewed confidence.

Camberley Boys Royals 0 Aldershot Whites 3
A better performance from CBR against a strong Aldershot side.
A tight first half of few chances saw Aldershot take a 1 nil lead before half time when Camberley failed to deal with a high cross.
In the 2nd half Aldershot's extra possesion started to tell and with CBR failing to create much going forward, the pressure told with Aldershot scoring 2 good goals.
This was an improved performance from CBR with particularly good efforts from Patrick Ryan and Joe Scott and, with easier games to come, let's hope that Camberley's first win is not far away.

Camberley Boys Royals 6 Manor Colts Black 7
Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory would sum up this performance. On a day when the Royals had finally found their scoring boots, a determined Manor Colts came back and won.
Manager Hayden re-organised a scratch Camberley side with a new up-front pairing of Joseph Barnett and Oliver Leatherdale and, a new look defence including Patrick Ryan and Joe Scott. The Royals pressed forward scoring first, and then twice more in the first half. However, after each goal, Manor Colts came back hard, lifting the ball over the Camberley defence, and enabling their swift-footed striker to score. Half Time 3-2.The Royals tightened up at the back and bossed the midfield in the first 10 minutes after the break, and managed to open up a three goal lead over their opponents. The result appeared sealed (or it would for most teams) but Manor are not the kind of side to give up, as we know from bitter experience last season. They continually broke through to level the score, and then eventually hitting a final winning goal in the few remaining minutes. Camberley had gifted Manor Colts their first points of the season, leaving the home side scratching their heads, and the Manager wishing he could bang a few together.
The result should not detract from a fantastic hatrick from Joseph Barnett in only his fourth match with the Royals, a brace from Oliver Grumley (including a stunning strike from well outside the box) and a first of the season from Oliver Leatherdale. All on an afternoon when Camberley actually started capitalising on their goal scoring opportunities. Long may it continue….but quickly please.

Milford Pumas Typhoons 3 Camberley Boys Royals 0
The Royals arrived at Milford to complete a one hour warm-up, with the intent of being ready to put in an improved first half performance. It worked - they started very brightly, winning the midfield and pinning the Typhoons into their half for much of the time, as well as creating numerous chances to score. However, Milford’s defense held firm and unfortunately their one lucky break resulted in the ball hitting the back of the net.
Camberley again came out strongly in the second half and when the ball was played out to the wings, produced some good football and even more chances that agonisingly did not get converted. Milford held tight and produced two further goals from their limited opportunities. This was a game that the Royals effectively won in all but the score line, and departed still looking for their first points of the season.

Headley Hornets 3 Camberley Boys Royals 2
Playing Headley away is always a bit of tense fixture and this one proved no different. In the tight confines of the sloping pitch, the Royals came up against a physical and determined Headley side. However, it was Camberley who scored first early into the game following a break away by Patrick Ryan. This possibly resulted in some complacency, as the Royals then struggled to contain the opposition in both the midfield and defense, and it was not long before Headley equalized and then bossed the remainder of the half, scoring two more in the process.
A motivational talk at the break saw the Royals come into the second half much stronger and not content to play victim to Headley’s bullying, nor the inconsistency of the official decisions. They were finally rewarded with a well taken penalty by Oliver Grumley. Some great play from Matthew Price and Stephen O’Brian in particular, meant there were few chances for the opposition, and in fact it was Camberley who had most of the scoring opportunities, but frustratingly did not quite make them stick.
The Royals won the second half convincingly, but unfortunately, not the game. The return fixture will provide an opportunity to do so and we look forward to that.

Camberley Boys Royals 0 Mytchett Athletic Falcons 5
The first game of the new season saw an exact reversal of the result from the last league fixture against Mytchett. A much changed and strengthened opposition proved too strong for the Royals in every department and coupled with Camberley using the first half as their warm up, they came in three goals down at half time. Whilst more grit was shown after the break, the Royals conceded two further goals and were well beaten. So, a change of fortune compared to previous starts to the season but there is time and many matches to improve and to put things right
